In October 2013, the GMWatch website had 158,855 unique visitors, who viewed 1,303,914 pages, while many more people are updated on our work via newsfeeds, email lists, Facebook and Twitter.
We can't stop the biotech industry's corporate propaganda appearing in the mainstream media but we can seriously undermine it using social media and our own news bulletins. And as India's award-winning journalist P. Sainath has said, nobody has the right to complain about the mainstream media if they're not helping to support at least a couple of viable alternatives.
We hope you will support us. Thanks to your generous support last year, we've been able to overhaul our newsletters and website, as well as continuing our core work of bringing you independent news and comment on GM issues from around the world. Now we need to ask you once again to donate to GMWatch and ensure that we can continue our work of shedding light on corporate attempts to radically transform and own our food supply.
People often ask us to give them an idea of the minimum donation. There's no fixed amount but to put it in context, subscribing to a mainstream newspaper can cost 100 GBP/160 USD/120 Euro per year.
For people living in an industrialised country who have some income, we'd suggest a minimum donation of 25 GBP/40 USD/30 Euro. Some people give more – sometimes much more – while others cannot afford even a dollar (and that's fine too).
